The Material

What is Vernovo?

A natural fiber/wood-polymer composite engineered from two components—both sourced from nature—and manufactured through Blue Standard's patented process.

Plant fibers and renewable polymers. No fossil fuels. No compromises.

Vernovo combines renewable plant extracts & polymers, made from either corn, sugarcane, sugar beet, or other crops with polymers derived from plant constituents and extracts—no petroleum, no PVC, no nylon. Every carbon atom in the material traces back to CO₂ that was photosynthetically captured by plants. No non-renewable material sources are used in manufacturing.

By varying the ratios of fiber to polymer and adapting the biopolymer protocol, Blue Standard engineers Vernovo from durable to pliable, rigid to compostable—full solid parts up to 20mm and beyond, injection-molded on conventional equipment. The result is a material with the right balance of strength, stiffness, and flexibility for each application, confirmed by a 3rd-party life cycle analysis to generate significantly less CO₂ than petroleum-based alternatives.

The Science

University-tested. Data-driven.

Biodegradability testing conducted by BOKU University (Austria), Department of Agricultural Sciences, BioPlastics Technology Lab.

Independently Tested

In a 24-week aquatic biodegradation study conducted according to OECD 301B / EN ISO 14852, five Vernovo wood-polymer-composite formulations were tested against a cellulose reference at 58°C with continuous CO₂ monitoring.

After 24 weeks, approximately 45% of the material had been converted to CO₂, compared to roughly 70% for pure cellulose. When expressed relative to cellulose degradation—the standard measure in the field—Vernovo reached approximately 60% degradation relative to cellulose at the 24-week mark.

A portion of the carbon is utilized for producing biomass rather than converting to CO₂, meaning total biodegradation is higher than CO₂ evolution alone indicates. Extrapolation of the data projects degradation reaching approximately 80% or more relative to cellulose after one year—confirming that Vernovo is a non-persistent material that actively biodegrades in the environment.

Test protocol: OECD 301B / EN ISO 14852, 58°C, 24 weeks, CO₂ evolution method. 5 formulations tested in triplicate against cellulose reference (4 replicates). A fraction of carbon converts to biomass rather than CO₂, meaning total biodegradation exceeds CO₂ measurements. Extrapolation based on degradation curve trajectory.

The Blue Standard Difference

We invented Vernovo. We manufacture it. We engineer it for you.

Vernovo is not a material we distribute—it is a material we created. Blue Standard holds three patents on the manufacturing and development process that makes Vernovo possible. That means we control every variable: formulation, performance, cost, and quality.

Our patented process is what makes Vernovo cost-competitive with traditional plastics at scale. No premium pricing for sustainability. No performance trade-offs. A better material, manufactured by the people who invented it.

3 Patents. Full Control.

Blue Standard's patented manufacturing process is the foundation of Vernovo's performance and cost-competitiveness. We don't license it—we run it.

Cost-Competitive at Scale

Our innovative process makes Vernovo competitive with traditional plastics. Sustainability should not come at a premium—and with Vernovo, it does not.

Custom Formulation

Durable to pliable. Rigid to compostable. Recyclable to circular. Blue Standard engineers every formulation to your product's exact specifications.
